How do I know if I have a Google Knowledge Panel?

Search your exact name on Google. If an information box with your name, photo and details appears on the right on desktop, or near the top on mobile, you have a Knowledge Panel. If Google lists you in its Knowledge Graph but shows no panel, use the checker above to find your Knowledge Graph ID and open it directly.

The basics

What is a Google Knowledge Panel?

A Google Knowledge Panel is the information box Google shows in search results for people, organizations, brands, places and creative works it recognizes as entities. Google generates it automatically from its Knowledge Graph, a database of facts about billions of things, and the facts it shows come from sources across the web. You cannot buy or design a panel. You can only help Google understand you clearly.

The Knowledge Graph is also what feeds Google's AI answers. When Google confidently knows who you are, it can describe you correctly in search, in AI Overviews and in its assistant tools. That is why entity strength now matters for personal brands and companies, not only celebrities.

Where does Google get Knowledge Panel information?

Wikipedia

The most common source for the description text. A Wikipedia article is helpful but not required.

Wikidata

Structured facts such as birth date, founders, official website and social profiles, linked to your Knowledge Graph ID.

Your website schema

Person or Organization structured data on your official site, especially the sameAs links to your profiles.

Official social profiles

Verified and consistent profiles on LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook.

News and publications

Articles, interviews and features in trusted outlets that describe who you are.

Licensed and industry data

Databases such as music, book, film and business registries that Google licenses or trusts.

How it works

How does this Knowledge Panel checker work?

The checker reads the same public entity data Google relies on, then scores how clearly Google can identify you.

1

Knowledge Graph lookup

We query Google's Knowledge Graph Search API and show every matching entity, so you can choose the one that is really you.

2

Wikipedia, Wikidata and schema audit

We check for a Wikipedia article, measure how complete your Wikidata record is, and scan your website's structured data.

3

Score and fix-first plan

You get an Entity Strength Score from 0 to 100, a one-click link to your panel on Google, and a prioritized list of fixes.

Understanding your results

What do Knowledge Graph ID, match score and entity type mean?

ResultWhat it means
Knowledge Graph ID (KGMID)Google's unique ID for an entity. IDs starting with /m/ came from Freebase, the database Google acquired and retired. IDs starting with /g/ were created by Google later. If you have one, Google knows you exist as an entity.
Match scoreThe resultScore returned by Google's API. It shows how strongly the entity matches your search. Higher scores usually mean Google is more confident about who you are.
Entity typeHow Google classifies the entity, such as Person, Organization, Corporation, MusicGroup or Book. A wrong type can cause the wrong panel layout or none at all.
DescriptionThe short label under the name, such as "Entrepreneur" or "Software company". It often comes from Wikidata.
Detailed descriptionThe paragraph shown in the panel, usually taken from Wikipedia. Without it, panels often look thin.
Entity Strength ScoreOur own 0 to 100 score combining Knowledge Graph, Wikipedia, Wikidata and website signals. It estimates how clearly Google can identify you. It is not a Google metric.

Wikidata links its items to Google with the Google Knowledge Graph ID property (P2671), which our checker reads.

Troubleshooting

Why did my Google Knowledge Panel disappear?

Knowledge Panels come and go as Google's confidence changes. These are the most common causes and what to do about each.

Confidence dropped

Fewer fresh mentions or conflicting information lowered Google's confidence. Publish consistent, up-to-date information and earn new coverage.

Wikipedia or Wikidata changed

A deleted Wikipedia article or edited Wikidata item can remove the panel's main source. Check both records.

Name is ambiguous

Someone with the same name became more prominent. Add your profession or company to your profiles and schema to disambiguate.

Website schema removed

A redesign or SEO plugin change often deletes Person or Organization schema and sameAs links. Rescan your site above.

Entities were merged or split

Google sometimes merges duplicates or splits one entity into two, which changes your Knowledge Graph ID.

Normal fluctuation

Panels can flicker for days during Google updates. If your Knowledge Graph ID still exists, the panel often returns.

Step by step

How do I get a Google Knowledge Panel?

You cannot apply for a Knowledge Panel. You earn one by making it easy for Google to identify you and confirm facts about you.

  1. Create an entity home. One page on your official website, usually your About page, that clearly states who you are and what you do.
  2. Add Person or Organization schema. Include your name, logo or photo, description and sameAs links to all official profiles.
  3. Keep every profile consistent. Use the same name, description and photo on LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Instagram, Crunchbase and industry profiles.
  4. Build a complete Wikidata record if you meet Wikidata's notability rules, with references to independent sources.
  5. Earn independent coverage. Features and interviews in trusted publications give Google facts it can confirm.
  6. Qualify for Wikipedia when you can. Test your eligibility with our free Wikipedia notability checker.
  7. Claim your panel once it appears. Search your name, click "Claim this knowledge panel" and verify through one of your official accounts, following Google's Knowledge Panel help.

FAQ

Google Knowledge Panel: frequently asked questions

Knowledge Panel basics

What is a Google Knowledge Panel?

A Google Knowledge Panel is an information box that appears in Google Search for people, organizations, brands and creative works that Google recognizes as entities. Google generates it automatically from its Knowledge Graph and shows facts such as a name, photo, description, official website and social profiles.

What does a Google Knowledge Panel look like?

On desktop it appears on the right side of the search results. On mobile it appears near the top. It usually shows a name, a short description, one or more images, a paragraph of background, key facts and links to official profiles.

Who gets a Google Knowledge Panel?

Anyone Google can confidently identify as a distinct entity can get one, including founders, authors, musicians, public figures, companies and brands. You do not need to be famous, but Google needs consistent, verifiable information about you from trusted sources.

Is a Google Knowledge Panel free?

Yes. Google does not charge for Knowledge Panels and you cannot pay Google to get one. Claiming and verifying a panel is also free.

What is the difference between the Knowledge Graph and a Knowledge Panel?

The Knowledge Graph is Google's database of entities and the facts that connect them. A Knowledge Panel is one visible display of that data in search results. You can exist in the Knowledge Graph without a panel showing for your name.

Getting a Knowledge Panel

How do I get a Google Knowledge Panel for myself?

Create a clear entity home on your website, add Person or Organization schema with sameAs links, keep all your profiles consistent, build a referenced Wikidata item if you qualify, and earn independent coverage. Google creates the panel once it is confident about who you are.

Do I need a Wikipedia page to get a Knowledge Panel?

No. Wikipedia helps a lot because Google often uses it for the description, but many people and brands have Knowledge Panels without one. Consistent website schema, Wikidata, official profiles and press coverage can be enough.

How long does it take to get a Knowledge Panel?

There is no fixed timeline. It can take a few weeks to several months after your entity signals are in place, depending on how much consistent information Google can find and confirm.

Can I buy a Google Knowledge Panel?

No. Google does not sell Knowledge Panels, and no one can guarantee one. Agencies can help you build the entity signals Google relies on, but be careful with anyone who promises a guaranteed or "verified" panel for a fixed price.

How do musicians and artists get a Knowledge Panel?

Artists usually get panels through consistent music data: official artist profiles on streaming platforms, a MusicBrainz entry, a Wikidata item with Spotify and YouTube IDs, an official website with schema, and coverage in music publications.

Claiming and editing

How do I claim my Google Knowledge Panel?

Search for your name on Google, open your panel and click "Claim this knowledge panel". Google then asks you to verify through one of your official accounts or other identity checks. Once verified, you can suggest changes to the panel.

How do I edit my Knowledge Panel after claiming it?

After verification, sign in with the same Google account, search your name and use "Suggest edits" on the panel. Google reviews each suggestion, so explain the change and link to a source that confirms it.

How do I change the photo on my Knowledge Panel?

Verified owners can suggest a new featured image through "Suggest edits". Using the same professional photo on your website, schema, Wikidata and profiles also helps Google pick it.

How do I add social profiles to my Knowledge Panel?

Add your official profiles to the sameAs property in your website schema and to your Wikidata item. Once your panel is claimed, you can also suggest profile links through "Suggest edits".

Problems and fixes

Why is my Knowledge Panel not showing up?

Google may know you as an entity but not show a panel for a plain name search, especially if the name is shared by others. Try your name with your profession or company, or use this checker to open your panel directly with your Knowledge Graph ID.

Why did my Knowledge Panel disappear?

Common causes are lower confidence, changes to Wikipedia or Wikidata, a more prominent person with the same name, removed website schema, or Google merging or splitting entities. If your Knowledge Graph ID still exists, the panel often returns.

My Knowledge Panel shows wrong information. What can I do?

Claim the panel and suggest an edit, then correct the same fact at its source, usually Wikipedia, Wikidata or your own website. If the source still shows the wrong fact, Google may bring it back.

Can I remove a Google Knowledge Panel?

Usually not. Knowledge Panels are generated automatically. You can suggest corrections, give feedback, or report information that breaks Google's policies or the law.

Technical questions

How do I find my Google Knowledge Graph ID?

Enter your name in the checker above. If Google lists you, your Knowledge Graph ID appears with a copy button. It starts with /m/ or /g/. You may also find it on your Wikidata item under property P2671.

Is the Google Knowledge Graph API free?

Google offers the Knowledge Graph Search API free of charge within its usage limits. This checker uses it to look up public entity data.

Is this Knowledge Panel checker an official Google tool?

No. It was created by Stay Digital Marketers and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google. It uses Google's public Knowledge Graph Search API together with Wikipedia, Wikidata and your website schema.

Why is my score different from what I see on Google?

Google decides when to show a panel based on many signals that are not public. The Entity Strength Score estimates how clearly Google can identify you from public data, so a strong score with no visible panel usually means it is close.

Is this tool free and private?

Yes. It is free with no sign-up. Nothing you enter is stored, and the tool only reads public data. It never submits anything to Google on your behalf.
